Police cleared in deadly Minn. shootings

A Washington County grand jury has found that police officers in Cottage Grove and Woodbury were justified in using deadly force this spring.

In one case, Cottage Grove police officer Brad Peterson shot Robert Wilson on March 29 after a traffic stop. Wilson was driving the car and sped from the scene, dragging the officer more than 500 feet. Peterson drew his gun and fired, killing Wilson.

In the second case, Woodbury Sgt. Omar Maklad was answering a domestic disturbance call on April 15 when 55-year-old Timothy Scott Hanson fired at him. Maklad returned fire. The officer was struck twice, and Hanson was killed.
