Minn. prosecutor to fill in for friend in Iraq

A southeastern Minnesota prosecutor is volunteering to take his friend's place in Iraq.

Ross Leuning is senior assistant Olmsted County attorney. In September, he's scheduled to arrive in Iraq as legal adviser to the commander of the Al-Asad air base.

Leuning is filling in for a friend in the Navy Reserve. He tells the Post-Bulletin of Rochester his friend has two young children and is a partner in a Boston law firm, so a year deployment "would simply ruin his practice."

It will be the 49-year-old Leuning's first mobilization to Iraq. He'll go through a month of training starting July 30, then spend a year in Iraq.
