Baby sitter convicted in abuse in Eagan

A 31-year-old Eagan woman has been convicted of malicious punishment of child in the abuse of a 6-month-old baby, which suffered several broken bones.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says 31-year-old Laura Marie Wilkinson was convicted Friday of six counts. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Backstrom says prosecutors are pleased with the verdict, which was reached after three days of deliberations.

The criminal complaint says femur and shinbone fractures were found April 17, and doctors ordered a full body scan which showed the other breaks.

Eagan police say Wilkinson told them she became rough with the baby when she was frustrated with the girl's crying. She also admitted grabbing the girl by the wrists and swinging her in the air like a monkey.
