Research center at U of M-Morris marks centennial

The West Central Research and Outreach Center at the University of Minnesota-Morris is celebrating its centennial.

The center is marking its 100th anniversary Friday with morning tours featuring research in field crops, livestock and renewable energy.

An afternoon symposium on the role of the center in west-central Minnesota features retired scientists. Speakers will also debate alternatives for agricultural sustainability in the next 100 years. An alumni reunion is set for Saturday and Sunday.

The nearly 300-acre center was established in 1910 as the West Central School of Agriculture and West Central Experiment Station. Through 1963, it was a boarding high school with an emphasis on agriculture and home economics.
