New polls reach cell phone owners
Minnesota's primary election day is now just a week away. As the day draws near, the season of political polling is getting into full swing... The Minneapolis Star Tribune came out with its poll in the race this weekend, showing all three leading DFL candidates with a significant edge over presumptive Republican nominee Tom Emmer.
The paper has used telephone surveys to track public opinion in Minnesota for decades, but the most recent poll introduced a new methodology. For the first time it included voters who only have cell phones.
Rob Daves ran the Minnesota Poll for 20 years ending in 2007. He's now a public opinion research consultant based in Minneapolis. He joined Cathy Wurzer this morning by phone to discuss the complexities of polling a primary election race in the age of cell phone.
