Teen dies from gunshot wound, police ask for public's help

Minneapolis police said a boy has died from a gunshot wound.

Sargeant Bill Palmer said police were alerted to the shooting at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday night.

"Patrol officers in the fourth precinct responded to a 911 call of a shooting in an alley behind 3347 Dupont Avenue North," Palmer said. "When those officers got to the scene they did find the body of what appears to be a male in his late teens with an apparent gunshot wound."

The victim was Charles Kentrell Jones, 17, of north Minneapolis. Authorities say he died of "multiple gunshot wounds."

Palmer said police don't yet know what led to the shooting. Police are asking anyone with any information about the incident to call authorities.

"At this point, unfortunately we don't know the circumstances leading up to this incident," he said. "We are asking for the public's help if anyone knows anything about what happened last night. At this point we don't have a lot to go on."

The Minneapolis homicide unit is investigating, and Palmer said the Hennepin County Medical Examiner will soon release the victim's name.
