Supreme Court rejects appeal in Waseca slayings

The Minnesota Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from the man convicted of killing a father and son in an attack at a Waseca-area farmhouse.

Michael Zabawa had argued that his confession was improperly obtained.

Zabawa was convicted of killing Tracy Kruger and his 13-year-old son, Alec, during a break-in at their home in 2007. He was also convicted in the wounding of Kruger's wife, Hilary, and is serving a life sentence.

Zabawa said he had been drinking the night before he spoke to police. He also said investigators lied to him while questioning him.

The high court rejected those and other arguments, ruling that Zabawa's statement was voluntary.
