Tom Horner's Independence Party campaign for governor is hoping quirky new TV ads will capture voters' attention.
The campaign released the first of three, 30-second spots Friday afternoon, featuring a face with one blue eye and one red eye moving in opposite directions.
Horner narrates, saying Republicans and Democrats have been moving too far to the right and left and that it's time to get Minnesota going in the right direction.
"Our theme is, there needs to be somebody with leadership that can reach across both aisles, that can create common sense solutions for the state of Minnesota," said Horner's campaign manager Stephen Imholte.
He added that this ad is different from standard campaign ads by design.
"We do have to be out there, edgy. We do need to make ripples. We do need to make people sit up and take notice," said Imholte. "I think once they notice who Tom Horner is, I think it changes the dynamics in this campaign."
Imholte says the new ad will begin airing Sunday throughout Minnesota, with an emphasis on the metro area. He says the ad buy will cost more than $100,000 and will last well into September.
