Memorial service to be held for Sandra Gardebring Ogren

Sandra Gardebring has chaired the Metropolitan Council, headed up the Department of Human Services, served as commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, served on the state Supreme Court and worked at the University of Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday for Sandra Gardebring Ogren, a former state Supreme Court justice and longtime Minnesota public servant.

Ogren died July 20 in California after a long battle with cancer.

The memorial service is being held at 5:30 p.m. at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota.

Ogren served on the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1991-1998. Before that, she was a judge on the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

In state government, Ogren was commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services from 1986-1989 and director of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency from 1977-1979 and again from 1982-1984.

Ogren later served as vice president for institutional relations at the University of Minnesota before moving to California. There, she served as vice president for advancement at California Polytechnic University of San Luis Obispo.
