Small plane crashes near Lake Elmo Airport

A small plane has crashed just north of the Lake Elmo airport.

Washington County authorities got a call about the crash shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.

Officials with the Washington County sheriff's office told reporters the pilot was the only person aboard when the single-engine kit-built plane went down in a farm field. He was taken to Regions Hospital, where officials say he was in critical condition Friday night.

The pilot's name has not been released.
