Metro Transit union voting on new contract Saturday

Metro Transit union members will vote on a new contract offer starting Saturday.

The Metropolitan Council's first offer included a wage freeze and higher health insurance contributions from drivers and other Metro Transit workers. That offer was overwhelmingly rejected by the 2300-member union.

Neither side would comment on details in the new offer.

A 2004 strike by union members caused a drop in transit ridership that took years to recover from.
