St. Paul could see flooding as Mississippi River continues to rise

The city of St. Paul could see flooding next week as water levels in the Mississippi River continue to rise, the National Weather Service said Friday.

Meteorologists said the record rainfall in southern Minnesota is pushing water into tributaries that empty into the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers.

City officials plan to close or restrict travel along several roads beginning this weekend, in response to the National Weather Service's prediction.

On Saturday, Kellogg Boulevard, from Wall Street to Broadway Street will be restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction.

On Monday, Water Street/Lilydale Road between Plato Boulevard and Trunk Highway 13 will be closed to traffic.

Beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m., Jackson and Sibley Streets between Kellogg and Shepard will be closed, as well as Shepard Road and Warner Road between Eagle Street and Hwy 61.
