Man who made child porn had fake Facebook pages

A Minnesota man has admitted that he created fake Facebook profiles to befriend girls online, and that he took sexually explicit pictures of one girl with his cell phone.

Forty-year-old Shane Allen Werlein of Stillwater pleaded guilty Monday to one federal count of production of child pornography.

Prosecutors say that according to a plea agreement, Werlein admitted that from November to February, he created fake Facebook profiles and befriended two girls in a scheme to get one of them to engage in sexually explicit acts and give him photos of it.

He also admitted he had sexual contact with two underage girls and used his cell phone to take illicit pictures of one of them. Prosecutors say he then downloaded those pictures onto his computer.

He faces a potential maximum of 30 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years.

A message left with his attorney after business hours Monday was not immediately returned.
