St. Paul prepped for flooding

Closing roads in St. Paul
St. Paul city crews stockpiled sandbags at Shepard and Warner roads in lowertown St. Paul on Sept. 29, 2010. The area is chronically affected by rising Mississippi River water and access to the roads at this point has been temporarily closed.

St. Paul has buttoned up its downtown riverfront for the second time this year, as Mississippi flood waters are set to crest there in the city weekend. Record rains dating back as early as the spring are to blame.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Minnesota Public Radio News reporter Tim Nelson who talked about high water from the floodwall at St. Paul's airport, Holman Field.
