Red River rising; minor flooding expected

Rain this week is swelling the Red River above flood stage from Wahpeton to Grand Forks.

The National Weather Service says minor flooding is occurring in the Wahpeton and Fargo areas and is expected to continue for the next week. The river is expected to rise above flood stage in Grand Forks by Saturday afternoon.

Grand Forks officials say some lower-level trails on the Greenway between the river and the dike that protects the city might be closed because of the rising water. Fargo closed a city street on Friday because of water on the roadway.

Both Fargo and Grand Forks set rainfall records for the date on Tuesday as a storm moved through the state.
