Mini-'Sanity' rally at State Capitol features Horner

Local fans of comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert gathered at the State Capitol Saturday to stage a smaller version of the Rally to Restore Sanity.

Thousands of people gathered on the national mall in Washington D.C. to take part in Stewart and Colbert's rally. In St. Paul, about a hundred people filled the Capitol rotunda to watch the event together on a big screen.

The local gathering also included a few speeches, including one by Independence Party gubernatorial candidate Tom Horner, who urged the crowd to vote.

"As the sign says up there says, 'Stop being afraid,'" Horner said. "Vote for the person you think is going to be the best governor. Vote for the person you believe is going to take Minnesota into a better future. Vote for the person who's going to be open to the new ideas, to new ways of thinking of things."

Event organizers said they weren't endorsing Horner, but supported his right to speak.
