Elk River man charged in ex-girlfriend's death

An Elk River man is accused of killing his former girlfriend in her apartment in south-central Minnesota.

Tyler Wicklund, 23, appeared in Le Sueur County court Monday on two counts of second-degree murder.

Wicklund is charged in the death of Jessica Buboltz, 20. The Free Press of Mankato reports the two have a 14-month-old daughter.

Wicklund was arrested Friday after a suicidal turn prompted his grandmother to call authorities. When he returned to his grandmother's rural Sherburne County home, deputies were there to arrest him.

The complaint describes how Wicklund said he grabbed Buboltz from behind, brought a knife to her neck and slit her throat in her Kasota apartment.

Wicklund remains in jail. His attorney, Tony Nerud of Arlington, says it's too early to comment on the charges.
