Group to give away bicycle lights in Twin Cities
Cycling advocates will hand out a limited number of free front and rear bicycle lights Tuesday evening in the Twin Cities.
Bike Walk Twin Cities spokeswoman Hilary Reeves said a majority of bicyclists riding after dark follow the state law.
"The state of Minnesota, as in many states, requires that cyclists after dark have a headlamp in front and red reflector in the back," Reeves said. "We think a blinking LED rear reflector is a good idea just because it makes you more visible."
Reeves said Bike Walk Twin Cities staff and volunteers will intercept bicyclists from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at a handful of undisclosed locations, and offer to attach a new light set.
Reeves said the mild weather is encouraging people to ride later in the season. Even as the weather cools, she said, about a third of commuter bicyclists continue to ride.
