Flood closes Burnsville junior high for the day

Students at a Burnsville school have an extra day off for Thanksgiving break.

Classes were canceled Monday at Nicollet Junior High because a broken water pipe flooded the school over the weekend. A neighbor called police Sunday after spotting water seeping from the front door of the high school.

School district operations director Jon Deutsch tells KARE-TV that about 60 percent of the main level flooded along with part of the lower level of the school. Electronics, carpeting and ceiling tiles were damaged by water.

School officials hope to have the water cleaned up in time for classes Tuesday.
