Rochester hit-and-run suspect charged
A 32-year-old man from Oronoco remains in the Olmsted County Jail, after being charged in two hit-and-run incidents in downtown Rochester that left one pedestrian dead and three hospitalized.
Christopher Trautman faces 14 criminal charges, including three felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide. Rochester police Lt. Dan Muyres says the first incident happened just after midnight Saturday, when two pedestrians were struck crossing a downtown street. Two other pedestrians were hit nearby a short time later.
Initial reports suggest the suspect was driving 45 to 50 mph in a 30-mph zone. Investigators also say Trautman's blood alcohol level was 0.18, well above the legal limit of .08.
Muyres says drivers need to be extra cautious, especially when going through Rochester's downtown entertainment district.
"Whether they have a red light or a green light, if there's somebody standing in the road, we know who's going to lose that battle. So drive cautiously, and please stop," he said.
