Moorhead police chief OK after rollover

Moorhead's police chief wants people to know that seat belts save lives - and he's living proof.

Chief Dave Ebinger and his wife were heading to Arkansas to celebrate Thanksgiving with relatives when he rolled his pickup.

The crash happened on Interstate 29 just as Ebinger crossed into South Dakota. He tells KFGO-AM of Fargo, N.D., that he lost control on black ice and rolled his pickup three times, totaling it.

He says if it weren't for seat belts, he and his wife wouldn't be here today.

Ebinger says his wife suffered a couple of hairline fractures and he got "some sore ribs and some magnificent bruises."

The chief says he was driving 15 mph below the speed limit and did not have his cruise control on.
