Man gets 3 1/2 years for St. Paul bat attack
A 21-year-old man was sentenced Monday to 3 1/2 years in prison for the baseball bat attack of a good Samaritan in St. Paul.
Ahmed Farah Hirsi pleaded guilty in November to aiding and abetting second-degree assault. Forty-year-old Edwin Daniel suffered a severe head injury during the May 25 assault.
He drove an airport shuttle for a St. Paul hotel and regularly visited a SuperAmerica. A few days before the assault, he defended a female clerk who was being harassed by a group of men.
The same men allegedly went after Daniel, with several wielding baseball bats.
Hirsi was one of four charged and the last to be sentenced. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that police are seeking a fifth man, but none of his co-defendants has disclosed his identity.
