Baby taken in stolen car in St. Paul found miles away

Police say they're still looking for whoever stole a family's car in St. Paul Wednesday evening and took their 11-month-old son, as well. The boy has been found.

Police said the parents of the boy said they were in the midst of an evening of shopping and stopped by their east side home. They left the boy in their running car briefly, and then saw someone drive it off. They followed it briefly on foot, but quickly lost sight of the car.

They called 911 and police put out an Amber Alert for the car and the boy.

He was found about eight miles from home, behind a Maplewood apartment complex. He was still strapped in his car seat. He was taken to Children's Hospital in St. Paul for a physical examination, and released to his parents shortly after midnight Thursday morning. Police said he was unharmed.

The car was found abandoned about a half mile away. Police say they're still looking for information on who took the car.
