Motorists urged to move over after trooper hurt

The Minnesota State Patrol is reminding motorists to move over after a state trooper's squad car was struck on a freeway.

Lt. Chris Edstrom's squad car was hit Monday while the trooper was helping a motorist on the shoulder of Interstate 35W near Forest Lake. Edstrom suffered minor injuries.

So far this winter, 22 trooper vehicles have been hit and five troopers injured. That compares with 10 trooper vehicles struck and four troopers hurt during the same period last winter.

Minnesota's "Move Over" law is 10 years old. It was passed after trooper Ted Foss was killed by a passing semi-truck during a routine traffic stop in Winona in 2000.
