10 hospitalized in Bloomington apartment fire

Ten people are hospitalized for injuries following an apartment fire in Bloomington.

Police Commander Mark Stehlik says adults dropped at least five children from two apartments after the fire broke out Tuesday morning, and some were caught by police and firefighters. He says firefighters also rescued a number of adults from the building using ladders.

While most of injuries were minor, Stehlik says paramedics treated a 2-year-old child as critical. Some residents were hurt falling from the building. Others suffered injuries ranging from cuts from broken glass to smoke inhalation.

Stehlik says the American Red Cross and members of churches are helping displaced residents, who are now staying in a nearby church.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
