A Maplewood man has been sentenced to four months in jail for stabbing a Roseville police dog, leaving the dog without the use of his hind legs.
Twenty-one-year-old Roel Perez Jr. admitted stabbing the dog, known as Major, during a break-in at a Maplewood truck utilities yard last November.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says Perez told the court Wednesday he was sorry for what he did and that he enjoyed dogs "as much as anyone else."
The judge stayed a sentence of one year and a day, meaning Perez could go to prison if he does not follow the rules of his four-year probation.
Major, a German shepherd, now gets around with the help of wheels that support his hind legs.
