Noted human rights lawyers speaking in Minn. this week

Two lawyers long active on human rights in Haiti are in Minnesota for appearances in St. Paul and Northfield this week.

Attorneys Mario Joseph and Brian Concannon were both involved in litigation stemming from what's known as the Raboteau massacre of 1994. They will speak Sunday in St. Paul at an event sponsored by William Mitchell College of Law professor Peter Erlinder.

"If the Haitian people are going to rebuild their country ... there's going to have to be an accounting and exposure of and awareness of the history that has caused haiti to be as it is today," Erlinder said. "The struggle in Haiti is not just about seeing that people get housing and the necessary means to survive, but that the political changes necessary to help Haiti become the more stable and prosperous country that it can become is also part of the struggle."
