2 killed in broadside crash in Brooklyn Center

Authorities say alcohol and speed may have been factors in a Brooklyn Center crash that killed two people.

State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske tells WCCO Radio that witnesses say the car was moving at very high speed when it blew through a red light at Highway 100 and 57th Street, broadsiding another car and killing the two people inside just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Roeske says the driver, who was allegedly impaired by alcohol, tried to flee on foot, but some people stopped and detained him until police arrived. Both he and his passenger were treated for minor injuries.

Killed in the crash were 21-year-old Jessica Vallis of Minneapolis and 22-year-old George Kaffey of Bloomington.
