At least one Republican state senator says he won't support the effort to build a new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings.
The team's lease on the Metrodome runs out this year. A bill to fund a new stadium was introduced at the Capitol on Monday.
Freshman Sen. Dave Thompson, R-Lakeville, an assistant majority leader, says he thinks lawmakers aren't interested in building a new stadium.
"I think a lot of us were sent here with the understanding to something different," Thompson said. "Among those things would be not redistributing wealth. In this instance, you want to talk about redistributing wealth from the wealthy to the poor. This is redistributing wealth from the folks to the wealthy."
The stadium bill is being carried by a pair of Republicans at the Capitol. They are three-term Sen. Julie Rosen, of Fairmont and five-term Rep. Morrie Lanning, of Moorhead.
