Boston Scientific begins layoffs announced in February

Boston Scientific, which employs some 5,000 Minnesotans, is laying off some employees in the state, though the company won't say how many.

In February, Boston Scientific said it would conduct "focused workforce reductions," but didn't offer specifics. Company officials said job cuts now going on are part of that effort announced in February.

A statement released by Boston Scientific said the company does not disclose details regarding affected employees. The statement said all affected employees will be treated fairly and receive transitional support. Analysts have said that job cuts — perhaps hundreds of them — could make sense because some of Boston Scientific's key businesses have been in the doldrums.

At the end of last year, the company had about 25,000 employees. That's 1,000 fewer than it had a year earlier.
