Minn. Senate panel considers abortion restrictions

A Senate panel is expected to vote on two proposals to restrict abortion in Minnesota.

The Judiciary and Public Safety Committee's Tuesday agenda includes a ban on abortion starting about midway through pregnancies at 20 weeks of gestation.

The other bill would prohibit public dollars from paying for abortions for low-income women on state-funded health care programs.

The proposals have good prospects of passing the Republican-controlled Legislature this year. But they're unlikely to make it past Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton, an abortion rights supporter.
