Minnesota FFA announces 4 stars for 2011

The Minnesota FFA Association has named Jason Schaefer of Hancock as its 2011 Minnesota FFA Star Farmer.

Schaefer started buying feeder pigs back in 3rd grade and now produces 750 market hogs annually. He's a 2010 graduate of Hancock High School and is currently a student at Ridgewater College in Willmar.

Other major awards announced Monday night at the state FFA convention in St. Paul include: Kaylee Samaza of Perham, the 2011 FFA Star in Agri Business; Andrew Steiner of Hancock, the Star in Production Placement; and Ryan Bart of Staples-Motley, the Star in Agri Science.

The awards honor students who have developed outstanding agricultural and management skills. The four winners received plaques and awards of $300 each. The runners-up also received plaques and $100 each.
