Man charged in abduction, sexual assault of St. Paul girl

A Spring Lake Park man was charged Wednesday morning in the Sunday kidnapping and sexual assault of a 8-year-old girl.

John Craig Heuer, 48, is accused of kidnapping the girl from a laundry mat near Rice Street and Larpenteur Avenue in St. Paul. The abduction activated an Amber Alert and the girl was found wandering near the man's home in Spring Lake Park.

Paul Sommer, commander with the Anoka County Sheriff's department confirmed the charges of kidnapping for taking a child in St. Paul, and then charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct for Heuer's conduct at his home in Spring Lake Park.

Heuer is currently in custody awaiting arraignment.

Sommer said the investigation into Heuer continues and said evidence at the scene suggests the possibility that Heuer may have done something similar in the past. However, he said it's too soon to know for sure.
