Friends, family of fallen Mahnomen deputy attend memorial
Colleagues and family of a fallen Mahnomen County deputy traveled to Washington for a memorial ceremony Friday honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Christopher Dewey's name was recently engraved on the wall at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The names of 316 officers killed in the line of duty will be read and formally dedicated Friday night.
Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier and his chief deputy, Brady Burnside, flew to Washington Thursday. Dewey's widow, Emily, and several others traveled by car. Deputy Dewey was shot in the head and abdomen Feb. 18, 2009. He died Aug. 9.
The Forum says survivors of Maplewood Sgt. Joe Bergeron, who died May 2010, and North St. Paul Officer Richard Crittenden, who died in September 2009, are also expected to attend.
