Gas leak that forced evacuations in Fridley fixed

Residents are returning to their homes after a gas leak forced the evacuation of about two dozen homes in the northern Twin Cities suburb of Fridley.

CenterPoint Energy officials tell KSTP-TV that crews fixed the leak about 4 p.m. Thursday. Residents were returning to their homes that evening.

CenterPoint says the gas line was hit by the crew for a contractor who was working on a street project.

Emergency crews in Fridley evacuated about 25 residences during the gas leak Thursday. Students from Fridley High School and Middle School as well as Stevenson Middle School who live in the area were not able to return home after school, and were dropped off at a Burger King and at a community center.
