Klobuchar, Franken team up for job training aid for vets

Minnesota veterans will soon get more help with job training. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken announced Thursday that more than $800,000 in funds for Minnesota from the U.S. Department of Labor. The money will go to state and local homeless veterans and job readiness programs.

Klobuchar said the goal of the program is to help veterans succeed in the civilian workforce once they return from deployment.

"They went away for a year or two years, and it's very hard for them if they come back -- there are less jobs, more people applying for them and they are at the end of the line -- so the idea here is to help them get skills to find new jobs or to at least get them some housing while they look for a job," Klobuchar said.

The money is meant to provide job training for about 21,000 veterans across the country.
