New round of safety inspections in tornado zone

A new round of safety inspections is beginning in tornado-damaged north Minneapolis.

City inspectors want to make sure properties, particularly rentals, meet health and safety codes. City officials say there are about 1,800 rental properties in the area damaged by a tornado on May 22. They say many landlords have taken steps to clean up and fix their properties, but there is still work to be done.

Rental properties with the most significant damage will be inspected first. Inspectors will notify property owners what repairs and cleanup needs to be done to bring the property up to code.
