St. Paul man gets 10 years in fatal crash

A St. Paul man who was driving drunk has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a crash that killed a 93-year-old woman and injured a 66-year-old man.

Eddie Cortez Smith, 33, got the maximum sentence Thursday.

Smith was convicted of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Smith had argued he did not cause Edith Schouveller's death.

Schouveller died three weeks after the March 28, 2010, crash. Theodore Hanson, the driver of the car Schouveller was riding in, was seriously injured.
