Operators shut down Prairie Island Unit 1 to fix oil leak

Xcel Energy has shut down Unit 1 of its Prairie Island nuclear plant near Red Wing to fix an oil leak on a turbine valve.

The valve is on the non-nuclear side of the plant. Xcel Energy says no one was hurt and there was no accidental release of radioactive material.

Unit 2 continues to operate at full power.

Xcel Energy says the outage to repair the oil leak is not expected to last long.
