Storms sweep through southern, central Minn.

Thunderstorms that swept across southern and central Minnesota dropped heavy rain in some areas and spawned powerful winds, including a possible tornado.

The National Weather Service issued severe weather warnings Sunday night about a line of thunderstorms capable of producing destructive winds with gusts of more than 70 mph. A trained spotter reported a tornado in Grove City just before 9 p.m., but it hasn't been confirmed.

Meteorologist Jim Richardson says rainfall has been heavy in some areas and the storms were moving fairly quickly.

In Sauk Centre, numerous trees and power lines were reported down and large grain equipment trailers flipped. The weather service also received reports of large trees being knocked down in Stearns.

No injuries were immediately reported.
