Six die in water-related incidents over weekend

A half dozen people died in water-related incidents over the weekend, making it one of the state's deadliest for drownings.

Two of the deaths were reported Sunday.

One of them was a 26-year-old man who Chisago County authorities said likely drowned after jumping off a cliff along the St. Croix River.

Earlier in the day, a woman's body was found floating in Crystal Lake in Burnsville. Her death is under investigation.

The night before, a man died after jumping out of a boat on Wayzata Bay on Lake Minnetonka. He struggled in the water and disappeared while friends tried to rescue him.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's office said minutes earlier, a man from Maryland apparently drowned in the swimming pond at the Elm Creek Park Reserve, in Maple Grove.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff said another boater died Saturday after he jumped into the water on Lower Whitefish Lake, and a 16-year-old Duluth boy died after hitting his head on a boat and falling into the water while swinging on a rope swing.
