Charges: Iowa drunken driver hit, killed MN cyclist

GARNER, Iowa (AP) - A man is charged with drunken driving in a collision that killed a 60-year-old Minnesota man who was riding a bicycle in northern Iowa last week.

The Globe Gazette in Mason City says authorities say Travis Thomas, of Floyd, was driving an SUV that hit Randy Nomeland, of Minneapolis, last Friday night on U.S. Highway near Britt.

Thomas' SUV was later stopped about 10 miles away by police in Garner.

The newspaper says Garner police charged Thomas with OWI and a charge of insufficient number of headlights. Online court records show his attorney, Russell Schroeder Jr., entered a not guilty plea to both charges during a court hearing on Tuesday.

A telephone call to Schroeder by The Associated Press on Wednesday evening was not returned.
