GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - One of the staunchest supporters of the
University of North Dakota's embattled Fighting Sioux nickname says
it's time to move on.

      
Earl Strinden is the former head of the school's Alumni
Association. The Grand Forks Herald reports (http://bit.ly/opjJXV)
that he played a major role in the effort to build support for
keeping the nickname. He also testified in favor of a bill to
require UND to keep the nickname that the NCAA and many people find
offensive.

      
The NCAA has refused to back down on threatened sanctions, and
the state Board of Higher Education has decided to retire the
nickname by year's end. Strinden says he's disappointed but life
goes on.


      UND President Robert Kelley on Tuesday posted a message urging
everyone on campus to contribute to "the next chapter."
