Fair ticket prices go up; limited discount available

Regular prices for State Fair tickets are going up a dollar for adults and $2 for children.

That means kids' tickets will be $10 and adult tickets, $12. That gives fairgoers additional reason to purchase advance tickets, which are discounted.

Some area Cub Foods stores are selling fair admission tickets for $9, before the fair's Thursday opening.

"Three of our closest stores near the fair set up designated aisles so that they can accommodate all our customers who want to come in and buy their tickets," said Lilia Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the grocery chain. Over the past five years, nearly 40 percent of fair tickets were bought in advance, at a discount. Discount tickets are also available at the state fair box office on the fairgrounds, as well as about three dozen outstate grocery stores and chambers of commerce. Discount ticket sales end at midnight Wednesday.
