W. I-94 reopened after fatal motorcycle accident

Westbound I-94 is open again after fatal accident involving a motorcycle near Portland Ave. in Minneapolis shut down the highway for about two hours.

A slowdown on I-94 appeared to trigger the crash when a car braked suddenly and the following motorcycle did not stop in time and hit the car. The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike, then hit by the car behind, Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske said.

"(It) looks like a typical chain reaction type crash in rush hour traffic." Roeske said. "Unfortunately and tragically, because a motorcyclist was involved, even those simple crashes can be deadly."

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the motorcyclist has not been released by the State Patrol, which still is investigating the crash.
