Minn. woman sentenced in fatal texting crash
A Browerville woman has been sentenced for a fatal texting-while-driving crash.
Nineteen-year-old Kayla Carry was sentenced Monday to serve one year in Otter Tail County Jail. Carry must serve at least two months in jail and may serve the rest on electronic home monitoring.
Carry also was fined $1,000 and placed on 10 years probation.
KBRF-AM reports Carry entered an Alford plea in August to criminal vehicular homicide. An Alford plea does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict her.
The complaint says 15 text messages were sent or received from Carry's phone in the 40 minutes before she crossed the center line and crashed head-on into another car on Sept. 16, 2010. The other driver - 77-year-old Lucille Vogt of Parkers Prairie - was killed.
