Supplier in NY salmonella cases also sold in Minn.

Dozens of people in New York have been sickened after eating kosher broiled chicken livers that were not fully cooked.

Health officials say the liver contaminated with salmonella was manufactured by Schreiber Processing Corp. under the MealMart brand. They say 89 cases of foodborne illness have been linked to the product, including 56 in New York City and 33 in nine upstate counties.

The Queens-based company is recalling the product.

Besides New York, the livers also were sold in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Minnesota.

The company's quality control manager said Wednesday the recall involves partially cooked 10-pound boxes of broiled chicken livers distributed to retail establishments.

Mordechai Milworn said instructions on the product's box warn that the product needs to be cooked before being served to consumers.
