NBA lockout takes toll on businesses

Some downtown bar and restaurant owners say the NBA lockout is a major drain on business.

Wednesday evening would have been the third home game for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Another game would have been played later this week.

Bars and restaurants near Target Center count on game day business from basketball fans, said Joanne Kaufman, executive director of the Warehouse District Business Association.. However, it's hard to accurately calculate how much is being lost, Kaufman said.

"The number I have heard thrown around and I don't know how accurate is, but this incorporates lost ticket revenue, parking revenue — it kind of encompasses everything — is a million dollars per game not played."
