St. Cloud State students reject fee increase

For the second time in two years, students at State Cloud State University rejected a proposal that would increase fees to pay for updates to their student union.

Roughly 56 percent of student voted against the proposal. The hike in fees would've amounted to $50 for most full-time students and would cover the entire cost of a $15 million renovation.

Only about 9 percent of students voted over the course of the week, barely enough for the vote to count.

The university says it wants to update the dining services in the union and create spaces for student to study and work together.

In April 2010, students rejected a similar proposal for a new $47 million facility.
