Duluth has driest fall in decades

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- It's been nearly 50 years since Duluth saw so little snow to start the winter season.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that through Sunday, Duluth has received just 4.3 inches of snow. That's nearly 18 inches below average.

The National Weather Service reports that the last time Duluth saw less snow to start a season was the winter of 1962-63, when 3 inches fell through Dec. 11.

However, that winter of 1962 may give snow lovers in northern Minnesota hope. After that slow start, the weather service reports 45.4 inches of snow fell on Duluth for the rest of the season.
